If you hear sloshing water sounds from behind your car's dashboard, chances are your AC drain line/pipe is clogged with debris. The sloshing noise may be especially noticeable when making turns as well as having a damp floorboard. Here is a quick fix using compressed air to unclog a Mitsubishi Galant AC drain line but fix can be used for many other vehicle models.

    Legit had a smell in my car last couple months, cleaned it, thought it was something someone spilled, etc. Ended up researching this a bit more after I took seats out and found water, brown liquid. Ended up being this black tube for ac. Took it out, it was warm to the touch. Cleaned it out, it was clogged full… so clogged that the water was actually coming from middle console area where it connects to top and not the bottom. Anyways… put it back on, turned on car, ran ac, it is now cool to the touch and a constant drip is happening. Took a few pots of hot water and soap, dumped them on floorboards after removing plugs underneath. Cleaned as best I could with a towel, sprayed a ton… now have a fan blowing in car windows down in garage to air out and hopefully get rid of smell. I’ll probs hit it again tomorrow, and put passenger seat back. Thanks for the video. Saved me a ton of money I bet.

    Bought a used 2012 Ford escape. Come to find out someone tried to unclog the line with a screwdriver and destroyed the evaporator unit. $2500 fix. Guess who’s driving without air. By the way, buyer beware. Learned it the hard way. People who sold it to me sure were friendly, though. Air was working when I bought it.

    • @drewh5377
      @drewh5377 Рік тому

      Ok so the compressor keeps the refrigerant flowing between the evaporator and condenser. The water build up is from condensation on the evaporator. that water comes from the air and the drain tube is just meant to let it out so your car doesn't get funky.

    I'm getting clear fluid on the floorboard in the passenger side and I just removed the carpet part of it to the side and I'm mopping up all the water that's underneath it's clear water...if it was green or whatever the other type of fluid that you're using for your engine it's your heater core probably leaking...The amount of clear fluid I have is crazy I could fill at least a gallon of water... The thing is I always look under the car and it's leaking water from the drain too..Always has been I check it all the time that's why it's confusing the shit out of me is it rain leak Unless it is accumulated overtime build up build up build up ,, I run this AC a lot..Now I'm letting everything dry out I'm gonna have to figure out where that plug is it just make sure it's open... Maybe I'll use a long wire to stick in the hole for like a pipe cleaner...

    This is just a temporary solution the proper way to do it is to actually open the system and clean it.

    • @mkapuscik01
      @mkapuscik01 2 роки тому

      Yes I agree that it may be a temporary solution if there is a large build up of debris that can't be flushed out all at once or if the vehicle is always parked under shedding trees where debris can accumulate again but it's worth a try. Definitely less time involved in this method as opposed to having to remove components to gain access to the system. I've done both before and can be a pain. Depending on the vehicle, some are easier than others in gaining access. It's always up to you on how you want to proceed.

  • @sergelucca635
    @sergelucca635 2 роки тому

    Hi, this is exactly what i experienced. Everytime i turn the car, the water just rushes out off the passenger seat. In such a case, what would be the alternative if you dont have air compressor and is there any chance that the clog is big and solid such as a piece of wood or rock or plastic? If it is then how did it get there? Thanks. 🙂

    • @mkapuscik01
      @mkapuscik01 2 роки тому

      If you don't have an air compressor you can try a can of compressed air. The kind you use to clean keyboards. Since the plastic straw is pretty thin though, try to seal around it when it's inserted maybe with some duct or electrical tape. Wrap the tape at the end of the drain tube and straw and give it several shots of air. You might even try a shop vacuum to suck the blockage out or reverse the hose on the vacuum to blow away the debris. You probably won't have any rocks or larger pieces of wood but likely may have twigs, leaves, petals, pine needles or pollen debris. If you can't evacuate the water and debris with air, then you would have to gain access to the HVAC System's enclosed case to physically remove the debris which is actually the best solution but can really be a pain depending on the make & model of your car. Sometimes there might be so much of a build up that even though you drain the water out, it might get clogged up again until it all gets drained out. As far as the debris getting there...that could be from parking under shedding trees or a number of other ways. In the spring, flowering plants and trees drop debris, such as petals and pollen. In the fall, leaves and pine needles accumulate over fresh air duct screens. They slip through the screens and work their way into the fresh air ducts. When it rains, debris is also washing down and if enough debris has accumulated, the drain becomes clogged. When we use our HVAC system, debris goes into HVAC box and starts restricting and eventually clogging the HVAC drain. Try the air trick first though because that usually works

    • @mkapuscik01
      @mkapuscik01 3 роки тому

      No that would not work because the system would have to no cold enough to produce the condensation. You have other issues why it isn’t getting cold. Could be many different things like a bad compressor/pump
